I spoke my ‘true’ voice, the accent of Strabane, when at home at my sister’s house, and I spoke another vernacular outside at school. My sister from Nottingham – my loco parentis – on picking up on the differing and conflicting standpoints and likely 18 Aphasia inside out difficulties, took my side about the land issue and represented me to the family.
